Now Showing: Four windows, to and from

‘Four windows, to and from’ brings together four artists working across painting, textiles and photography.

Featuring work by Hannah Arnold, Sarah Chowen, Michelanne Forster and Natalie Holland; artwork in this exhibition is marked by a range simple yet wholly individual observations that draw the viewer in with their careful focus, detail and texture.

Hannah Rose Arnold's work is gently evocative, often employing soft light and focus and creamy palettes to depict highly charged subjects concerning ecology, feminism, trauma and religion. Her lyrical photographic works explore a sense of personal and collective identity within a post-colonisation framework. Her work employs traditional and experimental photographic processes, extending to installation and video and employing a variety of materials.

Sarah Chowen is a Wellington-based painter known for her immersive landscapes. She perceives these green environments as regenerative forces, providing a soothing escape for the eyes and the mind like, "fresh air for the eyes to breathe." Her work examines the connection between grounding oneself and discovering a sense of inner clam. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Sarah holds a degree in interior architecture. A dedicatied student of art, she has been associated with Inverlochy Art School since she was 15, with her training spanning both London and Aotearoa.
 

Michelanne Forster is a loyal Inverlochy student, and has benefitted from the wide variety of classes that the school offers. After she retired she gained a Master of Fine Arts from Massey University in 2022, focusing on painting. Michelanne is also an author, playwright and teacher of creative writing. Her painting style reflects her life-long interest in creating original work for the page.

Natalie Holland is a textile artist from Wellington who produces bright and colourful punch needle pieces that feature motifs and patterns using hiapo (Niuean tapa cloth) which links to her Niuean heritage. Her works are made using 100% NZ wool and feature botanical and geometric elements in a wide range of often unexpected colour combinations. She has exhibited in group shows across Aotearoa and took part in the NZ Art Show for the first time this year.
